Choose a question you can act on
Start with an operating decision: should you keep a wrapping option, simplify the selection, change its price or improve preparation? Record a baseline period and a review date. Keep promotions, seasonal demand and product mix in mind when comparing periods.
Keep a small, consistent scorecard
- Record eligible orders, orders with purchased gift options and units sold by option. Define whether you count orders or units before calculating a take-up rate.
- Record gift-option revenue, materials, preparation time, app subscription and message usage costs. Use the same period and currency, and account for refunds.
- Review preparation errors, support questions and voluntary customer feedback. A popular option can still need operational improvements.
- For multi recipient purchases, reconcile the combined payment and recipient outcomes using the app’s reporting guidance so parent and child orders do not inflate sales.
Separate observation from attribution
If gift-option uptake rises during a holiday promotion, that alone does not prove the app caused an increase in sales. Compare similar periods or test a deliberate change while recording what else changed.
A recipient may discover your brand through a gift, but receiving a parcel is not evidence of consent to marketing or a new customer acquisition. Use permitted, attributable data for later visits or purchases and describe any gaps. Do not count every recipient as an acquired customer.
Decide what to change
At the review date, keep options that shoppers value and your team can reliably deliver. Investigate costly or confusing options before expanding. Document the observation, the change you made and when you will review it again.
What to keep in mind
