Set up PrepMyGifts for your store

Follow this checklist to offer gift options in your Shopify store. Start with one option, check it on the storefront, then test the full order and message journey.

Before you start

Use a Shopify account that can install apps and save theme changes. Have the name and price of one gift option ready. Use a destination you control for message tests.

How to use it

  1. Install PrepMyGifts from the Shopify App Store. Add your app contact’s name, work email and responsibility; the phone number is optional.
  2. Choose a plan and approve it in Shopify. Essentials includes the core gifting tools; choose Plus if you want multi-address orders. Message usage is billed separately on both plans.
  3. In PrepMyGifts, open Settings → Storefront setup → Open theme editor. Enable the app embed in your published theme and save the theme in Shopify.
  4. Create the options you want to sell in Gift Wrapping, Gift Bags, Greeting Cards or Upsells. Add a name and shopper price, save the option and check that it is active. Use Gift Messages to set message prices.
  5. Return to Home and switch on the services you configured. In Settings → Product eligibility, check that your test product is not excluded from wrapping, bags or messages.
  6. Open Notifications to review your email branding and message previews. Connect your own sending account only if you want to use one; otherwise the app uses configured PrepMyGifts delivery.
  7. If you offer multi-address gifting, open Multi-address shipping and save your fulfillment mode, product eligibility, shipping rates and inventory settings. If you offer native Shopify gift cards, publish their dedicated page and app block separately.
  8. Preview your storefront on desktop and mobile. Add a gift option, check its cart price and complete a test checkout using a development store’s test-payment setup. For a message, finish any later upload, receive the recipient link and test the gift reveal.

What to know

Switching a service on does not create its options. Shoppers need at least one active option and a product that allows that service.

Save theme changes in Shopify as well as configuration changes in PrepMyGifts. An unpublished theme does not change what live shoppers see.

What happens next

Your setup is ready for review when shoppers can choose the intended options, the cart shows the correct charges, your team can find the gift details on the order, and the recipient can open a test message.
