Handle cancellation refunds and store credit

Manage a recipient cancellation in Shopify, then check that the buyer’s refund or store credit is confirmed against the combined purchase.

How to use it

  1. Open the recipient’s Shopify order and review the cancellation and refund history.
  2. Use Shopify’s cancellation/refund controls for the intended original-payment refund or store credit.
  3. Open Financial summary for the purchase and check the confirmed refund and credit amounts. The buyer tracking page shows them too.
  4. If an amount is pending, uncertain or flagged for review, inspect the payment history and contact support before repeating the action.

What to know

The payment order holds the buyer’s actual charge. A manual refund record on a recipient order does not by itself send money back to the buyer. For supported cancellations, PrepMyGifts processes the matching refund against the payment order; store credit already issued by Shopify is recorded without issuing it again.

This automatic handling covers matching resolved cancellations. Returns, goodwill refunds, split payments and unsupported manual-payment histories need separate review. A cancelled order alone does not confirm that money was returned.

Store credit for a cancellation belongs to the buyer’s Shopify customer account, not the gift recipient. If Shopify shows a different customer, stop and have the account and transaction reviewed.

What happens next

A refund or credit is shown as confirmed only after the matching transaction succeeds. Pending or uncertain amounts remain visible for review.
